Suspicious Fires In Glassport Investigated
GLASSPORT (KDKA) – Fire officials say they are looking into a string of suspicious overnight fires.
The fires were all reported in the Glassport area, all within a couple of hours of each other.
The first call came in just before 11 p.m. last night at an abandoned church on Ohio Avenue. There were also three garages on fire on Cherry Ally, one of those garages was completely burned to the ground. Several vehicles were also damaged. Fire crews also responded to a small fire at another garage on Cherry Ally that was extinguished by the time they arrived.
Dave Homlotis says he looked out his window, only to find the garage on fire. He was able to save one of his vehicles.
“The far half was on fire and the part on top of my truck was on fire, just the roof. But by the time I backed my car down the alley, the whole the roof collapsed on my truck,” Homlotis said.
KDKA-TV’s Heather Abraham spoke with Glassport Mayor Michael Evanovich. He wants whoever started the fires caught as soon as possible.
Mayor Evanovich said, “We don’t want someone running around starting fires. They’re dangerous. We have a lot of elderly people here and fires are dangerous,” going on to say, “the investigation is ongoing until we capture the person who did this and find out why.”
Allegheny Fire Marshals say those who have information can call the anonymous tip line at 412-473-2776.
