PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A SWAT situation in the Hays section of Pittsburgh ended peacefully Wednesday morning.

According to officials at the scene, the incident started at a home in the 700-block of Baldwin Road around 9:30 a.m.

The Resolve Crisis Center had tried to mediate a domestic dispute there, but when they saw weapons, the retreated and called police.

As SWAT vehicles arrived, the man inside quickly surrendered. His dog was spotted running from the scene.

Police sources say he was holding a woman hostage inside, but she was not harmed.

Authorities say the suspect did have guns and a history of mental illness.

He was taken to Western Psych for evaluation. Charges are pending.

SWAT officers were already involved in a training exercise when the call came in, so they brought in a large number of SWAT team members. The incident shut down Baldwin Road for a time Wednesday morning.

A woman was treated at the scene, but no names have been released at this time.
