New Year's Eve Snow Wreaks Havoc For Drivers

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- For some motorists in the Pittsburgh area Monday night, winter driving was put to the test, especially before salt trucks began making their rounds.

In Brentwood, a car slid down the Waidler Street hill, directly into the Pyramid Street home of Linda Flores.

"I was on the phone with a friend of mine and I let out a scream when I heard a big crash, and for a moment, I thought the ceiling came down or something," Flores said. "Then, I ran over to the front door, and saw a car that had struck the front of my home."

The driver of the car said he pumped his brakes, put it in low gear, but it would not stop -- the car just kept going.

The driver, who did not want to give his full name, said the street had not been salted before the accident.

In Mt. Lebanon, a car hit on house on Shady Drive West.

The driver suffered a minor head injury.

Motorists also had difficulties trying to drive up steep and slippery places like Bellaire Street and Berwin Avenue in Brookline.

There were no serious injuries reported.
