CDC Responds To Flu Issue

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) -- It seems like everyone is sick right now and many are blaming it on the flu.

In fact, the Centers for Disease Control is calling the amount of flu cases an epidemic.

KDKA-AM's Larry and John talk to CDC influenza expert Dr. Michael Jhung in Atlanta. Jhung says that while this year's flu season is more severe than past ones, you shouldn't be too concerned.

"We get epidemics of flu every year, so we don't want people to get too excited,"  Jhung said. "It is most definitely not a pandemic."

With that said, Jhung says people should take care to keep from getting infected.

"It is a more severe season this year then last year," Jhung said. "We won't know how severe until the end of the season."

Jhung also talks about why what you may have might not be the flu, how to not get sick, and what the deal is with flu shots and their effectiveness.
