Sloppy PSWA Repairs Leaves Family Upset

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A hole in the middle of one Pittsburgh street has a family upset.

The family that lives on Tripoli Street is upset with the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority's job of covering it up – just using flimsy plywood, causing major tripping hazards.

"I just want it fixed, that's it," Perfecto Marrero said. "The way it was."

Marrero says more than two months ago the PWSA was there to do the repairs, but the plywood covering is what was left.

"It's dangerous," Marrero said. "When it's snowing it's real slippery. Anyone could fall."

Marrero's daughter brought her family over Friday morning and says they have been calling to complain to the landlord and water authority about the problem. She worries about her father who had a medical condition. The family says the biggest problem with the unrepaired sidewalk is the location.

"It's right in front of our doorstep," Eva Ponce said. "As soon as you walk down the steps … you can walk across that and easily fail."

The PWSA says often when repairs are done in the winter, they can not lay concrete until Spring, so temporary fixes have to be made in the meantime.

The family feels that they have made more than enough calls to PWSA and watched more than enough people trip, hoping that repairs are made soon.
