Pet owners who are struggling to buy food for their animals may be able to get some help.

A new donation-based program called Pet Food Stamps was designed to help struggling families with food and supplies for cats, dogs, birds and other animals.

The organizers say this could help people avoid having to give up their pets, which will help to ease the strain on already over-crowded shelters.

It’s open to anyone in the United States, and organizers hope to eventually expand their services to include free or discounted veterinary care.
