Man Dressed As Woman Robs "Money Mart"

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are searching for an unusual suspect in a violent robbery.

They're looking for the man who held up the "Money Mart" on East Ohio Street.

It was brazen and bizarre at the check cashing business, as the male suspect was dressed like a woman.

"Crazy, crazy, crazy … all I can say," Customer Tino Sewell said.

Officers descended on the business around 8:30 a.m., investigators told reporters that a female employee opened up the business at 621 East Ohio Street.

She didn't notice a person walk in right behind her. It's then, according to the woman, that she was struck by the suspect – beaten about the face and head.

The front counter and lobby was trashed as the woman was roughed up by the suspect, then a shot was fired, missing the worker.
Crime scene officers gathered evidence and prints. K-9 dogs tried to track the alleged robber's scent.

The suspect is described as a male, dressed in a female disguise. He was wearing a long dark wig and was carrying a Louis Vuitton and bag when he fled. He was wearing a scarf that fell to the ground and was recovered by police.

Sources close to the investigation tell KDKA this isn't the first time the store's been robbed. In fact, the drug store next door was victimized by a robber in the last two months.

The woman attacked was lead to a waiting ambulance by paramedics, fortunate to have survived the incident. She was taken to the hospital for basic treatment and observation. She is expected to be OK.
