Election Returns

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — We are more than three and a half years away from the next presidential election, but that does not mean possible candidates are waiting before they test the waters.

One of those possible candidates is former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum.

He is the guest this week on the KD-PG Sunday Edition and during the taping of the program; he talked about a host of issues.

KDKA’s Stacy Smith: “Are you running in 2016?”

Santorum: “Uh, I am open to doing that. I am certainly not doing anything inconsistent with that. Let’s just put it that way.”

If he does run, there are a host of issues facing a candidate.

One of them was debated before the Supreme Court this week – gay marriage. Santorum does not believe the court will mandate a change in the definition of marriage.

“There is one thing about being tolerant, I’m tolerant and I think we are very tolerant society and we should be. One thing about respecting people and the decisions they make,” said Santorum. “It’s another thing to condone and actually promote something that could have a real impact on society and have an impact on children and have an impact on faith and have an impact people’s ability to practice their faith. There are a lot of consequences to changing the definition of marriage.”

And on foreign policy, the former Republican presidential hopeful talked about Iran.

“Clearly, the President has to draw a line, and I don’t think he has,” said Santorum. “He has to draw a line that says if Iran crosses this line, and frankly, I think they are at that line right now from all of the intelligence; if they cross that line then we will act in a way to debilitate their capability.”
