PITTSBURGH (93.7 THE FAN) Monday is Pittsburgh Pirates’ Opening Day at PNC Park and the Fan Morning Show is broadcasting live from the broadcast booth. They were joined in the early morning hours by Pirates President, Frank Coonelly.

The weather is a concern, but the sun is rising, and the tarp is coming off which is an optimistic sign. Frank thinks the optimism will carry through the team, as they are “ready to take on the challenges of the National League Central.”

The most encouraging thing that Frank saw in Spring Training was Gaby Sanchez’s first live batting practice. Usually hitters are behind in the development compared to pitchers. But, Sanchez stepped right in and hit “lasers” all over the field.

We also get Frank’s thoughts on the starting rotation, when Gerrit Cole could be called up, and how Russell Martin will upgrade the team in 2013.
