Westmoreland Co. Sheriff's Deputy Arrested On Drug Charges

EAST LIBERTY (KDKA) - A Westmoreland County sheriff's deputy was arrested for using heroin in a Target parking lot Wednesday night.

According to police, Erika Ditch, 24, of Greensburg, is charged with possession of heroin and possession with intent to deliver.

Police caught Ditch and Leann Wechtenhiser, 24, of Derry, using the heroin in the parking lot of the East Liberty Target. They were sitting in a pickup truck that Ditch had been driving.

Ditch had been working with the Sheriff's Office for less than a year and was still in training. She had interned with the office two years prior.

Sheriff Jonathan Held said he was disappointed in Ditch and never would have expected this.

Held said drug testing is not currently required when being hired in the Sheriff's Office, but it is something he would like to implement.

Ditch's gun and uniform were picked up at her home last night.

She posted bond Thursday morning and was expected to meet with the sheriff sometime after. That has not happened and KDKA-TV's Trina Orlando has learned Ditch submitted her letter of resignation.

Ditch wasn't home when KDKA went to her house and she is expected to enter rehab.
