Locke: Trust In Himself A Big Factor
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -Nobody was quite sure what to expect from Jeff Locke entering the season. In 2012, Locke was 1-3 with a 5.50 ERA. But, Locke has been strong this season, as he is 3-1 with a 3.15 ERA entering the weekend.
What's the reason for the turnaround?
"I think a lot of it has to do with trusting myself, trusting my stuff, trusting my defense, trusting my catcher," Locke told Bob Pompeani. "I know the first few go-arounds up here in the big leagues weren't like that for me. It was tough for me to figure out things."
Locke has had several different pitching coaches during his professional career, but likes working with pitching coach Ray Searage.
"Ray's been great to me, to everybody that I've seen him work with. (He) puts a lot of trust and a lot of confidence in his pitchers, and cares about each and every one us a real lot," Locke said.
