Local Soldier's Missing Dog Found

HAMPTON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A local family is giving thanks after finding their beloved, family dog.

This wasn't your usual missing dog story, though.

Jack, the Bernese Mountain Dog, and his owner have been inseparable for years. But right now, Jack's owner, Army Private Connor Green is halfway around the world serving in Afghanistan.

Jack went missing three days ago after escaping from a family friend's house in Shaler Township.

Private Green is expected to return home in August.

His family couldn't bear to tell the soldier that his dog had gone missing while he's away from home.

Now though, that won't be the case.

The Green family says because of responses from concerned citizens, more than 1,000 Facebook hits and numerous tips, Jack was located Wednesday evening.

In an email, Private Green's mother said, "The outpouring of interest and concern makes Pittsburgh truly a wonderful place to live. Connor has no idea the interest he has created halfway across the world!"

There's no word yet on exactly where Jack was found, but his family was very worried about the dog because they said he is skittish and shy around people.
