Walk On Wednesday: Perhaps Too Much Love For The Long Ball

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- Pirates color commentator and former pitcher Bob Walk joined The Fan Morning Show today for another edition of his weekly segment, "Walk on Wednesday."

The Pirates fell to the Braves 5-4 in 10 innings last night, and while the offense had a relatively strong showing in that contest, Walk feels that there's a reason we're seeing unusual changes such as Russell Martin being used as a right fielder.

"I think it shows exactly where we're at with this offense right now," Walk said. "We've just got to do something to get it going. It has been in slumber mode for too long."

He thinks that part of the issue is that the vast majority of the team's production comes from the long ball.

"Right now, for whatever reason, unless we hit the ball out of the ballpark we don't seem to be able to score runs," Walk said. "We don't get enough hits, we don't get guys on."

Walk also shared his belief that the bullpen isn't being overused, because it's the team's biggest asset and should be used accordingly.

"Walk on Wednesday" can be heard every Wednesday on The Fan Morning Show at 8:40 a.m.
