Air Quality Orange Alert Issued For Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Elderly people and anyone with respiratory issues are advised to stay indoors this weekend because of poor air quality.

The DEP has issued and Orange Air Quality Action Day Forecast this weekend for the Pittsburgh area, in addition to Mercer and Indiana counties. An orange alert indicates unhealthy pollution levels for sensitive people, officials say.

The orange level advisory is due to ground-level ozone – or smog – which officials say happens when the weather is warm.

Officials also ask that residents limit their pollution by not leaving engines to idle, not wasting energy and by getting gas after dusk.
