MLB Network Host Suggests Skipping Cole's Starts

PITTSBURGH (93.7 THE FAN)--The Pirates will open a two-game set in Seattle tonight against the Mariners. To talk about their success in the first half of the season, the Fan Morning Show talked to MLB Network Host, Brian Kenny.

Gerrit Cole is on pace to pitch far more innings than he ever has in his career, and the Pirates will have to monitor.

"You want to keep an eye on his innings," Kenny said. "Even though the guy looks stress-free when he pitches."

But, he suggested that the Pirates will not shut him down completely. Rather, Kenny would have them skip a few of Cole's starts to limit his innings, so that he will be fresh down the stretch.

Pedro Alvarez has played his way into the conversation of potential All-Star candidacy. While Brian tells us that David Wright is far and away the best third baseman in the National League, Pedro deserves some consideration as a back up.

Russell Martin's impact on the Pirates has been "huge" as Brian describes. He cites Martin's "Pitch-Framing" and defensive abilities as a major upgrade. And, at the plate, he has far outperformed anything the Pirates have had behind the plate in the last few seasons.
