Pirates' Locke: All-Star Game Would Be Nice, Pitching In October Is Better

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jeff Locke joined Vinnie & Cook on Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan live from the clubhouse in Seattle on Wednesday afternoon. The night before, he led the Pirates to a 9-4 win over the Mariners and continued his outstanding season.

Many are making a case that Locke should be an All-Star next month.

"Personal accolades are nice, but they've never really done a lot for me. I want to be pitching in October with these guys," Locke said. "What an honor it would be to go to the All-Star Game. But that would last just a weekend, you know? I've got a job to do with these guys, and I want to pitch all year here. I want to keep giving my team the best shot I can to win games, and I know they're going to keep doing the same for me."

After losing his first start, Locke has not dropped a decision.

"It's something that really started in Spring Training," Locke said. "I am really trusting my stuff and really throwing my pitches with conviction. It's just competing on every single pitch out there and not giving in to the hitters, and carrying it on through the season."

Locke admits the Pirates' clubuhouse is a good place to be.

"It's a lot of fun right now," he said. "But we're not looking at it any different than any other time of the season. We don't look at the standings. We don't look at yesterday, and we don't look at tomorrow. We just take care of the task at hand, and that's why it's so much fun to be a part of this club right now."
