Police Investigating After Body Found Near Westmoreland Co. Home

SOUTH HUNTINGDON TWP. (KDKA) – Police are investigating after a man was murdered outside of a home in Westmoreland County Monday night.

According to the Westmoreland County Coroner's Office, the incident happened in the 500-block of Route 31 n South Huntingdon Township around 9:30 p.m.

The victim has been identified as George Williams, 46, of South Huntingdon Township. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends said Williams knew those who lived at the home where he was fatally shot.

State police say Williams was gunned down in the driveway.

"I believe they did know each other. It started out as basically a verbal and then physical altercation that took place between two males. Shortly after the altercation that took place at that residence, the male was then fatally shot," Tpr. Stefani Plume said.

Troopers gathered evidence from the scene, which included multiple firearms. The motive for Williams' murder is still being investigated.

However, a person of interest is being interviewed.

"He's being questioned and there's multiple things taking place as far as evidence, vehicles, residences, things like that. Based on the witness' testimony and the descriptions and things like that they were able to give, they were fairly certain that they'll be able to make an arrest," Tpr. Plume said.
