Clardy: A Fan's Got To Accept The Pirates' Limitations

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - How should Pirates fans should look at their team right now? Troy Clardy thinks they should remember Dirty Harry's line from Magnum Force: "A man's got to know his limitations." Troy explains why on Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan.

After being told by Sports Illustrated's Joe Sheehan that Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez's numbers indicated that he is merely "an above-average left-handed slugger," Troy has noted that many Pirates fans still complain about his low batting average and high strikeout rate.

Some Pirate fans also seem to be down on Gerrit Cole because his debut has not been as dominant as other recent pitching phenoms. Instead of trying to make Alvarez into Miguel Cabrera or Cole into Matt Harvey, Troy thinks fans should accept their significant contributions as well as their limitations.

"We get packed phone lines with Pirate fans who are complaining about this team's flaws even after they win!" Clardy says. "So Pirates fans certainly know their team's limitations. But the sooner they actually accept those limitations and celebrate this team's strengths, I think they'll be a lot better off."

Hear all of Troy's thoughts on the matter below and catch him Sunday mornings on Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan!
