Developers Working To Add To North Shore

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – On the rain-slickened pavement of North Shore Driver, a big cat rolled toward the main entrance to Lot 2 today.

It's fenced off and waiting, its tailgate days a memory – the lot will soon feel the bite of excavation.

"By the end of June or July, we should have the entire shell to the building completed," Michael Hudec, Vice President of Development for Continental, said.

Ready for finishing, construction by the first floor Marquee restaurants.

"Toby Keith, Burgatory and North Park Lounge signed leases very soon so they can open in the fall," Hudec said.

As for the office space on the upper two floors:

"Right now there's enough parking for those activities when we move forward with more development on the project that's when we will have to look at another parking garage on the North Shore," Hudec said.

As the new building goes up, the sports and exhibition authority will study the parking situation and hopes to have a garage plan in place for either the area behind the new building or the corner of Lot 4 across from PNC Park by the spring of 2015.

Construction could take another year and then Continental will move toward developing the rest of Lot 4 and the Prime lot along the river next to Equitable Gas.

"We are trying to create activity on the North Shore 365 days a year, not just on the sporting days," Hudec said.

Timetables on the North Shore are never set in stone, but as it stands now, the building is expected to be completed and the restaurants open by the football season next year.

However, the parking spaces will continue to be available through this football season and next year before giving way to construction of a parking garage in 2015.
