1 Dead In Braddock Shooting

BRADDOCK (KDKA) - Police spent over five hours investigating in and around the home after the shooting this morning, which ended five years without a homicide here in Braddock.

Derrail Roilton, 24, was shot multiple times and died in the yard next to his family's home on Second Street.

"It's a sad day in our community," Mayor John Fetterman said. "We lost a life this morning through violence. There's always a better solution than the way things ended this morning. You can't undo that. You can't take that back."

Hours into the investigation, Allegheny County Homicide Detectives towed a car parked down the street from where the shooting happened. The homicide was not only a tragic loss for Roilton's family, but also marks the first homicide in Braddock in over five years.

"We were 64 months in and then this tragedy happened. The most important thing is I want to extend my personal condolences and sympathy to the family who lost a son, a brother, a father," Mayor Fetterman said.

Mayor Fetterman has tattoos listing the dates of all the homicides in Braddock since he took office. Sadly, he now has to add to the list. The mayor, staying abreast of the investigation, said they have positive leads and are also working with possible surveillance footage.

However, police are also asking for witnesses to come forward.

"People need to understand that we're going to need their help to make sure we get the most information possible in order to have the best chances of taking a killer or killers off the street," Mayor Fetterman said.

Allegheny County Police will be looking into that surveillance footage as well as continuing talks with any potential witnesses.
