Father Dead, 2 Kids Injured In Butler Chase, Crash

CENTER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A father is dead and his two children were injured in a crash Wednesday afternoon in Butler County.

State police say it started with a police chase.

It happened around 1:20 p.m. at Muddy Creek Drive near Staff Road in Brady Township.

According to state police, a trooper saw the car had an expired inspection sticker, turned around and started to follow the vehicle, the vehicle took off, hit a hillside and flipped over.

Investigators say they don't know why the vehicle took off.

"We don't know if it was something as simple as a traffic violation or if there's a possibility of something bigger," Trooper Dan Kesten, of Pennsylvania State Police. "We won't know that until the investigation's concluded."

The coroner's office was called to the scene.

"Inside the vehicle were two juvenile passengers and also an adult operator of the vehicle," said Trooper Kesten. "The adult operator of the vehicle is deceased."

The investigation continues.

The children are being treated at a hospital in Butler County. They are expected to make a full recovery.
