A Freedom Budget For All Americans

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — The need for economic justice is nothing new to America. When civil rights leaders proposed the Freedom Budget during the 1960's their goal, among many, was to achieve, "freedom from want."

Today that budget is being revisited by two leading socialist leaders and authors, Paul Le Blanc and Michael Yates.

Their book "A Freedom Budget For All Americans: Recapturing the Promise of the Civil Rights Movement in the Struggle for Economic Justice Today", combines historic perspectives with clear-sighted economic proposals.

KDKA'S Chris Moore spoke to the authors about how economic justice can be achieved.

"If we want economic justice in this country we've got to have a very powerful independent movement of the majority of the people to push for economic and social justice", said Le Blanc.

The independent movement Le Blanc refers to has a lot to do with the spirit of the Civil Rights Movement.

Reviving the attitude of that movement is what Paul Le Blanc and Michael Yates believe will help spring fourth economic justice.
