Walk On Wednesday: 'It Had To Be Cole Tonight'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)-Pirates broadcaster and former pitcher Bob Walk joined the Fan Morning Show on Wednesday live from St. Louis hours before the deciding Game 5 of the NLDS.

Bob says there is no advantage tonight for either team because these are two evenly matched teams. He says it might sound too simple to say, but the staring pitcher that has the best game will pitch his team into the NLCS, which opens Friday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Bob understands that it might have been hard for Manager Clint Hurdle to not give the ball to A.J. Burnett tonight because of what he has meant to this team and his postseason experience, but with his numbers at Busch Stadium it made the decision a pretty simple one.

"It had to be Cole tonight," Walk said. "Cole was just fantastic the entire month of September and he has carried that over to the postseason."

Walk feels that the Pirates could get to Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright tonight if they can layoff his curveball and make sure he gets it in the strike zone. He thinks the Pirates could hit that curve then and it could be enough to get the Pirates three or four runs, which should be enough for Cole.

He is not ready to predict a winner, but he feels confident in saying that it will be a good close game that will come down to the final two innings.

Bob did however give the guys a little hope when he signed off with, "I am looking forward to talking with you guys next Wednesday."

Let's hope he is right.
