Newsradio 1020 KDKA Editorial: The Pirates' Season
Okay. All year long – they were the "kryptonite" to the Pirates' "Super Man." It still stinks that St. Louis ended the Bucs post-season run Wednesday. It's natural to be sad…but don't be…be glad that this year happened. When was the last time the Pirates even had a post-season? This has been Pittsburgh's best year for baseball in decades. It was cool to be a Pirates fan again. People stopped wearing their Steelers or Penguins shirts to PNC Park. They dug out their vintage Pirates gear – bought new stuff – And waved the "Jolly Roger" at every opportunity. Fans packed PNC Park – or followed the games on radio and TV. After twenty years - the dream of a winning season became reality. It was October – and the Pirates were still playing. We started talking about the playoffs – even the World Series. But that ended Wednesday night. Painful? Yes. But it shouldn't define a season – And it shouldn't define this special team that rekindled Pittsburgh's passion for baseball. Let's be grateful – And let's raise the Jolly Roger one more time – and look forward to next year.
