Police Searching For School Van Driver After Hit-And-Run

BEECHVIEW (KDKA) - Police are searching for the driver of a school van who allegedly hit a pedestrian, but kept on driving Monday morning.

According to police, the accident happened along Crane Avenue in Beechview around 7:30 a.m.

When Pittsburgh Police arrived at the scene, they initially could not find a victim. Then, they heard a voice over an embankment crying out for help.

The victim was allegedly struck by a passing First Student school van just before the railroad overpass.

Police said the victim was hit so hard, she was thrown several feet off the road, but the van kept going.

The victim was disoriented and quickly rushed to the hospital in stable condition. Her name is not being released at this time.

Meanwhile, police are continuing to look for the van. None of the witnesses were able to make out a license plate number or vehicle number.

Because they have little to work on with the incident, police are hoping that First Student may find out just which one of their drivers was allegedly responsible.

The woman who was injured is expected to be okay.
