PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Mailing your holiday packages this season may be easier than ever because you won’t have to step foot in a post office.
Community leaders officially cut the ribbon on a new United States Postal Service service center inside Staples on McKnight Road in the North Hills Thursday.
“I think it’s a great marriage of the two. Folks come here for office supplies, all kinds of needs in that regard. Now, they have the opportunity to mail things right from this location. I think it’s really a good fit,” USPS Spokesperson Tad Kelley said.
“We’re looking to make more happen for our customers. It really is all about the customer and I think when you look at the USPS, they are obviously committed to having an environment that will be conducive for our small business customers to come in for a one stop shop,” Josh Dinger with Staples said.
This service center is the first-of-its kind inside a Staples store in the Pittsburgh area. Eventually, there will be 15 other locations throughout western Pennsylvania.
“It’s a shared responsibility of serving the public and the customers. So, it’s really not a grand opening of a post office per say as far as bricks and mortar, but it is an expansion of our services and products, which really has allowed customers to get convenience, access, and speed in their purchasing,” Kelley said.
The pilot program is only in a few other cities across the country including, San Francisco and Atlanta.
Local post office officials said this opening is perfect timing as the busy holiday season approaches.
“We really expect the package business to grow even greater than last year. Online purchasing is really going just, going crazy if you want to say it that way, and our Priority Mail products are just very popular. The flat rate shipping and you’ll be able to get it right here at Staples,” Kelley said.
