Man Charged After Fleeing West End Undercover Drug Operation

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A Mount Oliver man is in custody after fleeing a drug bust and leading police on a lengthy chase.

Drew Bey, 48, is now facing several charges, including attempted homicide and aggravated assault.

He went to the intersection of Lenhart and Steuben Streets in the West End around 7 p.m. Wednesday with the intention of selling 10 to 20 bricks of heroin.

When state police and DEA Task Force agents moved in on him, he took off.

At one point, he appeared as though he was surrendering. He stopped and put his hands over his head.

When officers approached the Lincoln Continental, Bey took off.

This time he hit a guiderail, backed into a concrete wall and struck several parked vehicles. He also tried to run over an officer who was on foot.

Another officer saw what was happening and fired at Bey. However, Bey was not hit and got away.

Bey was later picked up by Pittsburgh Police who used a K-9 to track him down near a creek.

His abandoned car was found nearby.

He is currently in jail unable to post bond.
