Newsradio 1020 KDKA Editorial: Tran$portation

The state legislature has finally passed it –

A bill to raise more than 2-billion dollars a year -

To repair Pennsylvania's roads and bridges - and fund mass transit.

The money will come from higher fees –

Surcharges on some traffic fines –

And lifting the cap on the oil company franchise tax.

While that's a tax paid by fuel distributors –

Most of it will probably be passed on to consumers –

Through higher prices at the gas pump.

It's true - no one likes to pay more for anything –

But Pennsylvania's roads and bridges are in bad shape.

Mass transit has been cutting service and raising fares.

These are problems that need to be fixed – and fixing takes money.

Like it or not - the transportation bill will raise that money –

Without siphoning off funds from something else.

Let's start those long-delayed repairs – and move on.
