Mother Of Twin Toddlers Killed In Fire Arrested After Failing To Submit Drug Test

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A local mother who pleaded guilty Monday to leaving her twins home alone to die in a fire is back in jail, but for a different reason.

The mother, 33-year-old Dalawna Berran-Lett, was in court facing charges of involuntary manslaughter, child endangerment and reckless endangerment.

She pleaded guilty to all those counts and was ordered to submit to a drug test prior to sentencing. But investigators say, she never showed up.

KDKA's Kym Gable Reports:

Lt. Jack Kearney with the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office tells KDKA's Kym Gable his deputies searched for Berran-Lett for hours after obtaining a new arrest warrant.

They received a tip that she was at a Hill District apartment. They surrounded that building late Monday and took her into custody.

Berran-Lett's twin 3-year-old boys, Ky'heir and Dy'heir, died in January after one of the boys turned on a grease-covered stove.

Berran-Lett later told police she left the boys alone to search for her teenaged daughter, whom she believed stole marijuana from her purse.

KDKA's Trina Orlando Reports:

Berran-Lett is now in the Allegheny County jail, without bond, until her formal sentencing.
