Car Crashes Into Kitchen Of South Fayette Twp. Townhouse
SOUTH FAYETTE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — Police are trying to figure out if weather played a role in an accident Friday afternoon in South Fayette Township that sent a car careening into a townhouse.
The accident happened around 3 p.m. at Deer Watch Road and Meeting House Road.
The townhouse at Hunting Ridge was heavily damaged when the out-of-control Volkswagen careened off a road, down a hillside, traveled several hundred feet and ended up inside the home.
A man and several small children were inside the home at the time of the crash.
The car ended up in the kitchen, sending debris flying.
“I was cleaning up dishes in the kitchen and I thought the wall had just caved in, in didn’t notice the car,” said Josh Songer, who was inside the townhouse. “This is horrible that our house isn’t going to be functional.”
South Fayette Police have not identified the driver, nor have they said if he will face criminal charges.
It’s not clear if weather played a role in the accident.
R.J. Vighetti, who lived a few doors down from where the accident took place said, “I was in my living room doing paper work, all of a sudden I heard a loud noise, like metal banging, almost like a gas explosion.”
Songer, who was in his kitchen when the car came through his wall, said initially he had no idea what had happened, he just saw the wall collapsing and he went into shock.
Songer said the driver appeared to be unconscious when he finally got to the car through the wood and shards of broken glass.
