11-Year-Old Killed In Springdale Crash

SPRINGDALE (KDKA) -- An 11-year-old boy has died from his injuries following a two-vehicle accident Friday evening in Springdale.

The accident happened around 3:48 p.m. in the 1000-block of Riddle Run Road.

According to Allegheny County Police, the child killed in the crash was the only passenger in a Mitsubishi Eclipse that was headed southbound when the driver lost control.

The car spun around sideways and into the northbound lane of traffic where a Kia Sorrento hit the driver's side of the Eclipse.

The child was taken by medical helicopter to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. He has not yet been identified.

The drivers of both vehicles were treated for minor injuries.

The Allegheny County Police homicide unit and collision reconstruction unit were called to the scene to investigate the crash.

But, according to Allegheny County Police, "slippery road conditions may have contributed to the loss of control."
