Olympic Gold Medalist Nastia Liukin Excited For 2014 P&G Gymnastics Championships

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- Olympic gold medalist Nastia Liukin joined Andrew Fillipponi to promote the upcoming P&G National Gymnastics Championships coming to Consol Energy Center this August.

Watch Nastia on Pittsburgh Today Live (Pt. 1):

"We are excited to have this coming to Pittsburgh for the first time," Liukin said. "It's our competition to determine who will be representing the national team, so it's a big time competition."

The U.S. Gymnastics Championships showcases the country's best male and female gymnasts, as well as determines the U.S. champions and the U.S. national team for the junior and senior elite levels. The nationals also traditionally serve as part of the selection process for the U.S. Team for the World Championships.

Pittsburgh will be the first city from Pennsylvania to host the nationals since 2001 and only the fourth since 1973.

Liukin talks to Andrew about her career, which included winning five medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, which tied the U.S. Gymnastics record for most medals in one Olympic Games. The previous were Mary Lou Retton in 1984 and Shannon Miller in 1992.

Watch Nastia on Pittsburgh Today Live (Pt. 2):

Liukin retired as a competitive gymnast in 2012, but remains heavily involved in USA Gymnastics and will be here for the nationals to be held at the Consol Energy Center Aug. 21-24 2014.

Liukin will be one of many former champions that will be in Pittsburgh for the event.

Tickets are available at the Dick's Sporting Goods Box Office at the Consol Energy Center, all Ticketmaster locations including select Giant Eagle locations, and Ticketmaster charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000.
