Route 88 Construction Creating Major Traffic Worries In Overbrook

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A construction project along Route 88 has gotten a little too close for comfort for some people who live along the road.

Everywhere Janet Carney looks from her Overbrook front porch onto Provost Road, she sees trouble.

PennDOT put jersey barriers along the road late Thursday night that Carney says block the entry and exit from her house. Also, she says bad signs have cars coming down the wrong way on a one-way street.

And forget about trying to take a walk.

KDKA's Marty Griffin: "This street isn't wide enough to move your car."

Carney: "No."

PennDOT put the jersey barriers there around midnight.

Now, Carney says she's trapped.

Griffin: "How are you going to get out of your house here?"

Carney: "I don't know. When you walk down the street, you've got to walk in the street, and then you've got the cars coming up and at you. It's just crazy."

KDKA's Marty Griffin tried to pull KDKA's live truck into and out of Carney's driveway. He couldn't do it without either hitting the wall in front of her house or backing up into the jersey barrier.

There's another problem, too, cars are ignoring road closures signs, traveling one way in the wrong direction, nearly hitting oncoming traffic.

Carney says PennDOT has to fix it now.

"They need to move these, need to move them over or something because nobody's paying attention to what's going on," said Carney.
