PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Andrew Lambo enters the 2014 season as the leading candidate to platoon at first base for the Pirates with Gaby Sanchez. But Lambo told Bob Pompeani that he’s not taking anything for granted.

“You never want to go into spring training with the mindset of ‘I have this job,'” Lambo said. “You’ve always got to kind of prove yourself, and I’m really excited to do that.”

Lambo told Pompeani that he’s spent time in Venezuela working at first base in game situations.

“I played about 20-30 games out there at first base, so I was very fortunate to do that,” Lambo said. “It’s starting to be a lot more comfortable for me over there.”

Lambo acknowledged that fans have every right to be skeptical about his abilities, and he looks forward to proving that he can do the job.
