3 Firefighters Injured In North Huntingdon Fire
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Three firefighters were injured responding to a house fire in North Huntingdon Township Monday night.
It started around 9 p.m. at a home in the 200-block of Cherry Lane. The fire spread between the home and garage.
Officials say two firefighters were injured, after getting into a minor crash on their way to the fire house. A third firefighter was injured by an exploding propane tank.
Back up was requested from additional fire companies because of the extreme cold. Firefighters have been rotating in order to retreat from the harsh weather.
"We got called out to a dryer fire," said Assistant Fire Chief Mark Gibas. "I was the first one on the scene ... had heavy fire and smoke out the rear of the structure. It quickly spread into the garage, to a vehicle and that spread it into the rest of the home."
A man and his twins who were home at the time escaped serious injury.
