Slight Warm Up Has People Headed To Car Wash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It almost seemed like spring, even though temperatures hovered in the 20s.

A sunny Thursday brought people out to walk the dog and wash the car.

Grimy vehicles waited in a very long line at Northway Auto Wash on Babcock Boulevard in the North Hills.

"I'll get this salt off," says Cassy Cooper, of Pittsburgh. "It's a beautiful day. Made me feel like it was spring, and I said, 'Okay, we gotta clean the car.'"

"Clean roads, no water," adds Dave Sullivan, of McCandless. "I can get the car washed. Look at it!"

Once through the sudsy car wash, the transformation is complete. And the cars keep coming as road salt melts away.

"Yesterday, we had a 590 car day," says employee Bob Leo. "Today, we'll probably hit 600. So yeah, it's a very busy day today."

Just up the road is the Arbor Bay do-it-yourself car wash. But sunny or not, it still isn't warm.

Ray and Julie Billing, of West View, know that the handheld spray can be cold.

"I think it will be, but my husband assures me it's not going to freeze the locks," Julie says.
"Anyway, he's the guy who does the washing."

"She kept saying her coat keeps getting dirty all the time," Rays says. "I keep her happy, and keep her car clean for her."

At least, until the next ice storm.
