Steelers Name Porter As Defensive Assistant Coach

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Steelers named a familiar face as a defensive assistant coach Tuesday morning.

According to the team, former Steeler Joey Porter will join the coaching staff for the upcoming season.

"We are excited about having Joey back with the Steelers' family," Mike Tomlin said in a statement. "Joey spent a number of years with Pittsburgh as a player, and now he's back to assist the coaching staff. We look forward to his efforts and contributions."

Drafted by the Steelers in 1999, Porter played in Pittsburgh until 2006 before moving on to Miami and Arizona.

For his career, Porter racked up 98 sacks, 721 tackles, 25 forced fumbles and 12 interceptions.

Porter was also the first NFL player to record 70 sacks and 10 interceptions in their career.
