WILKINSBURG (KDKA) — Wilkinsburg Police are searching for a jogger and her dog after the animal bit a 9-year-old boy who was walking to a fundraiser with his older brother Saturday morning.
Investigators say it all happened around 10:30 a.m. in the 900-block of South Trenton Avenue, heading towards Penn Avenue.
According to police, the jogger and her dog were approaching the two boys from behind when animal lunged at the boy, biting him on his leg.
Police say the woman continued jogging, but did tell the boy and his brother that her dog had all of its shots. She continued north on South Trenton Avenue.
“She shouted to the young male her dog had its shots and continued on. The area was canvassed by police and she was unable to be located,” said Officer Michael Catanzaro, of Wilkinsburg Police.
The boy suffered a dime-sized puncture wound on his right thigh, police said.
His father took him to Children’s Hospital to be checked over.
“Any time there’s a dog bite, the party involved should stay at the scene or notify the police so that dog can be quarantined and checked for rabies,” said Officer Catanzaro. “We are trying to locate that female; she just kept jogging.”
Police describe the jogger as a white female in her late-teens to early-20s, with a thin build and between five-feet-six-inches and five-feet-nine-inches tall. She was wearing a white coat with green accents.
It’s not known what breed the dog was, but it’s being described as medium-sized, about 50 to 70 pounds and had white fur with brown and orange spots.
Police say it’s unknown if the woman will face any charges at this time.
