Furry Tails: Big Honors For Local Pets!

You probably haven't heard of these local pups, but you should know they've recently received some big honors.

Jazz, the Dalmatian, is about to become a cover dog, and Sonny, the Border Collie, has brought home the top prize from an American Kennel Club competition.

First, the beautiful Dalmatian from Gibsonia will be "jazzing" up the cover of the 16th edition of "Traveling With Your Pet: The AAA PetBook."

The cover photo, which won the recent "AAA PetBook Photo Contest," features Jazz on vacation at Hatteras Island, Outer Banks, N.C., paws in sand with a picturesque lighthouse in the background!

Jazz's owner, Lisa Ann Bauer, said in a news release, "For my husband and I, the ultimate relaxing vacation includes spending time with our three Dalmatians. The dogs always provide us with an opportunity to meet new people, and they love all the pets and the attention they receive."

Phoochie, a mixed breed from California, and Radar, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi from Rhode Island, will also be featured in the book this summer.

You can check out cover pup Jazz when "The AAA PetBook" hits selves at participating AAA offices in May.

As for Sonny, she and owner Lucy McCloskey defeated 97 other dogs at the American Kennel Club Rally National Championship back on March 28 in Harrisburg.

Sonny and Lucy relied on "communication and teamwork" to score 394 points out of a possible 400. The course includes 20 stations that require obedience and performance skills, according to the Keystone Canine Training Club where Lucy is training director.

The Border Collie and her owner have also participated and earned titles in agility, obedience and freestyle dancing events as well.

Sonny isn't all about competition though. She also loves to give back.

She's a Certified Therapy Dog and takes part in Paws for Reading, too.
