MUDDY CREEK TWP. (KDKA)- Neighbors rushed to a Butler County mobile home to make sure a woman made it out safely Monday night.

Firefighters say the fire started around 8 p.m. inside a shed along Robbie Way in Muddy Creek Township.

It spread to a vacant mobile home before spreading to Edith Byers’ mobile home.

Neighbors knocked on Byers’ door and were able to get her and her dog out safely. Firefighters rescued her cat after finding it hiding behind a piece of furniture inside the home.

“I was laying in bed watching TV, heard this knock at the door, dog started barking. I went to the door. One of the young gentleman told me to get out because my house was on fire, the back end of the house was on fire,” Byers said.

“I was watching TV and I looked outside and all I saw was flames, so I ran to Edie’s house to make sure we could get her out,” said neighbor Carol Book.

Byers’ home was a total loss. The vacant mobile home next door was also destroyed.

Neighbors were able to use garden hoses to save the roof of another nearby home.

”I think some things might be salvageable, but I don’t think much is,” Byers said.

While Byers lost nearly everything, she was able to salvage some precious photos of her grandchildren, parents and grandparents.

She is staying with her brother-in-law until she can get back on her feet.

Firefighters are looking into the cause.
