BRIDGEWATER (KDKA) – A Beaver County man is in a lot of trouble after police say he and his girlfriend took an emergency vehicle from the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department out for a joyride in the middle of the night.

It’s a crime that people in Bridgewater can’t believe or understand.

Randy Davidson, 46, is accused of stealing the keys to the fire department rescue truck and taking the vehicle on a 30-minute joyride with a female friend last week.

“So, if there had been an emergency, it could have been somebody’s life because of his little joyride and silliness,” said Donna DuPont, of Bridgewater.

Authorities say video surveillance cameras inside the station caught Davidson and his girlfriend in the act from start to finish. From the time he entered the building through a rear door, found the keys, opened a bay door and drove away.

The cameras also caught him returning to the station a half hour later and even plugging the electrical cord back in the vehicle so that it appeared as though it was never moved.

“I hope they find out how it was done and rectify the situation,” said Bridgewater resident Andrea Challis.

Davidson was arrested after police and fire officials identified him on the video surveillance.

They believe he learned where the keys were stored from hanging around the station with a friend who is a volunteer firefighter.

The fire chief told police Davidson is not a member of the fire department and never had permission to enter the building.

“You always think of kids doing stupid stuff like this, but come on, 46-years-old. It’s time to grow up,” said Norma Baker, another Bridgewater resident. “It’s dumb.”
