Hershey Park A Great Destination For A Nearby Summer Getaway

HERSHEY, Pa. (KDKA) -- If you're looking for a quick getaway this summer, Hershey is just a three to four hour drive away and has lots to do, including an amusement park for all ages.

Whether you like to be scared, or entertained, or spend time with your family, Hershey Park shows chocolate is just a taste of the fun to be had.

Hershey Park is 110 acres, which is twice the size of Kennywood, with 12 roller coasters and 20 kiddie rides.

There's also a water park inside, included with admission, called The Boardwalk.

New this year is the Cocoa Cruiser. It's designed to be a younger child's first roller coaster.

"It went up, and when it went down it goes really fast," said 6-year-old Oliver Stinchon.

The kiddie rides are spread throughout the park.

The teenagers flock to the big coasters. The SkyRush was built two years ago.

"It was so much fun, especially the sides where my dangle feet off," said Linda McHenry, of Philadelphia.

"It was a rush, it really was," added Madison Mulka, also of Philadelphia.

At 70 miles an hour, once SkyRush crests, it never slows down. It's one scary twist after the next.

And for parents, Hershey Park has something called a "kiddie swap." Once a family gets to the front of the line, one parent can go on the ride, and then as soon as they're done, the other parent gets to take their turn right away.

Then, to relax after the terrifying coasters, the lazy river meanders through The Boardwalk water park area, where the kids love to get soaked in the splash park and other water rides.
