Injuries Avoided After Vehicle Crashes Into Auto Zone Store

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) – An Auto Zone store in Wilkinsburg suffered significant damage after a vehicle drove through the front of the building Monday afternoon.

According to police, the accident happened in the 200-block of Penn Avenue around 12:30 p.m.

The driver, Ed Stout, of North Braddock, said he initially went to the store to pick up an oil filter.

Stout claims when he was pulling into the parking spot, he applied the brakes, but he vehicle did not stop.

"I came pulling in, went to go into the spot, stepped on the brake, car jerked forward. [I] stepped on the brake again, it just kept on going into the store," Stout said.

Normally, the store has a number of customers inside at that time of day. Today, that was not the case.

"Fortunately, there was not too many people inside the store and the area was clear," Wilkinsburg Police Officer Dan White said.

Stout did say one person in the store had to react quickly.

"One guy in front of me jumped up onto the counter and that was about it," Stout said.

There are no reported injuries and no charges have been filed.
