Man In Critical Condition After Being Injured On North Side
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Pittsburgh Police are investigating a bizarre chain of events that took place on the North Side Wednesday night.
According to police, a 60-year-old man from Pittsburgh went into the Family Dollar on Brighton Road around 9 p.m.
The man went into the store and seemed to be fine until he stumbled out into the parking lot and collapsed.
People in the store believed he had suffered a seizure and called 911.
Paramedics then found a hole in the man’s head while on the way to Allegheny General Hospital.
He had apparently driven himself to the store as his car was in the parking lot.
Neither the car nor the Family Dollar parking lot had any evidence that a shooting that happened there.
There was no blood, shell casings or bullets found.
“When we last had information from the hospital, it was a life threatening [hole] in the head, but we are still trying to determine exactly what happened to the gentleman,” Sonya Toler, Pittsburgh Public Safety Public Information Officer said,
Police have been unable to speak to the man because of his condition.
UPDATE (Aug. 28, 2014 @ 11:45 p.m.) —
Investigators now say this was a medical incident not a police matter. Police say the man’s head wound has been determined to have been from a prior medical procedure.
He remains at Allegheny General Hospital in their intensive care unit.
