Police: Registered Sex Offender Arrested For Arranging To Meet Father And 5-Year Old For Sex

BUTLER (KDKA) -- A registered sex offender in Butler County is behind bars after authorities say he allegedly arranged a meeting with two state Attorney General's Office agents posing as a father and 5-year-old daughter.

David Ellenberger, 43, of Butler, is facing a long list of charges, including unlawful contact with a minor, criminal attempt rape of a child, criminal attempt of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child and criminal attempt of indecent assault.

According to the Attorney General's Office, the investigation began when agents with the Child Predator Unit found ads posted online soliciting sex from children.

The agents, posing as the father and young daughter, then contacted the person who posted the ads by email, text message, and eventually by phone.

The Attorney General's Office reports Ellenberger allegedly "made multiple requests by text message to engage in explicit, unlawful sexual contact with the minor female."

After confirming Ellenberger's identity through his cell phone number in the public records database, investigators say a meeting was arranged with him at a park near his home.

That's where he was taken into custody.

Ellenberger has been arraigned and is now being held in the Butler County Prison after being unable to post bail.

He faces a minimum of 25 to 50 years in prison, the Attorney General's office says.
