Woman Injured By Falling Tree Branch In Squirrel Hill

SQUIRREL HILL (KDKA) – A woman is recovering after being struck by a falling tree branch Sunday night in Squirrel Hill.

The incident happened in the 5500-block of Aylesboro Avenue around 6:50 p.m.

The woman was struck in the head and arm and was last listed in serious condition at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

"It sounded like a cracking boom, like thunder almost, really close thunder," said witness Jeremy Ernstoff.

Ernstoff had just finished walking his dog Matilda under the same trees less than 15 minutes earlier.

"I came out front and I saw everyone gathering around the area and I came up to see what it was and I saw that at tree had fallen and it looked like a woman had fallen and she was hit by a power line," he said.

The woman's name has not been released, but she is believed to be a professor at the University of Pittsburgh.

The branch was still on the sidewalk as of Monday morning.
