Fire Prompts Evacuation At Brentwood Borough Building

BRENTWOOD (KDKA) - Things got a little hot and smoky Tuesday morning at the Brentwood Borough Building and everyone had to be evacuated.

The 911 call came in just before 10 a.m. Someone inside heard a loud boom and the building quickly filled with smoke.

"We had a pump that circulates water that switches over during the cold and warm seasons. It caught fire and burned up," Brentwood Fire Chief Dan Niecgorski said. "The building was evacuated, we had a smoke condition. Right now, we are in the process of ventilating the building."

After about 45 minutes, everyone was let back inside the building and there were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is unknown and the pump was said to be relatively new.

A polling location nearby was closed for about 20 to 30 minutes because of the smoke. About five voters had to be turned away during that time. However, everything is back to normal.
