Westmoreland Co. Residents Taking Winter's Return In Stride

GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- Old Man Winter made his return engagement to western Pennsylvania, and the folks in Westmoreland County took it in stride.

With a dusting here and few inches there, the overnight snowfall garnered various reactions.

"I wanted to cover my head and forget it, I tried not to even look outside," said Shirley Pratt, of Jeannette.

Pratt headed to Walmart today, wishing it was all an ugly white dream.

"It doesn't matter, I just hate it anyway," she said.

Most schools had some type of delay. If, however, you're in the business of snow, then a delay wasn't in your vocabulary.

"Four o'clock, got out here right before it started to get real bad," said Kevin Lock, a plow truck driver.

Most looked at the radar and saw white dread headed our way. But Lock saw a thing of beauty.

"I was thinking a lot of money was coming in for us tonight," he said.

Plow trucks scrapped black top everywhere while folks streamed into places like Bortz Hardware in Greensburg to gear up for their own snow removal projects.

"We sold a ton of calcium, a few shovels, and that's what we're selling today," said Heather Foster, of Bortz Hardware. "We are happy there's some weather today."

And remember how hard it was to get a bag of salt or anti-skid last year; well, this winter, fear not.

"The manufacturers and suppliers were really pushing for everybody to get what they need early," said Foster. "They were so scared there was going to be another shortage."
