Ed Bouchette: Bettis Deserving Hall Of Famer

PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- 93-7 The Fan Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette joined Tab Douglas Sunday morning to discuss Jerome Bettis being elected to the Pro Football of Fame.

"He had knockout stats, a knockout career, everything you wanted in a Hall of Famer, he had it. Super Bowl, inspiration, played hurt, consistency, didn't fumble, and he had the stats," Bouchette said.

Bouchette talked to Bettis, and Bettis was happy to receive the news.

"He's in a very good place," Bouchette said.

Douglas discussed Bettis' longevity and durability with Bouchette.

"Sometimes people want to turn that into a negative, like 'well, he should have had all those yards, he had all those carries.' Yeah, and every carry, a blow was delivered somewhere unless he ran untouched into the end zone because all those yards, all those carries, those were tough yards. He should be celebrated for lasting that long," Bouchette said.

Former Steeler Kevin Greene did not make the cut, but Bouchette sensed that Greene is receiving more support among voters.

"I thought he picked up more support, just listening to people talk and how they talked," Bouchette said.

Bouchette added that Greene will likely benefit from Charles Haley being selected since the two were often compared, and the vote was split in the past.
