Pedro Alvarez Wins Arbitration Case Over Pirates

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Having hit just .231 with 18 home runs and 56 RBI in a season he had to switch positions because he struggled making throws from third to first, Pirates first baseman Pedro Alvarez filed for a 2015 salary of $5.75 million while the team filed for $5.25 million.

According to 93.7 The FAN's Colin Dunlap, Alvarez won his case and will make $5.75 million in 2015.

The $5.75 million Alvarez was awarded by the arbiter represents a raise of $1.50 million after making $4.25 million in 2014.

2014 marked the first year Alvarez was arbitration eligible and came after the best season of his career when he hit .233 tying for the league lead in home runs with 36 and driving in 100 runs while making the All-Star team.

The Pirates went to arbitration with three players this offseason including Alvarez, second baseman Neil Walker and starter Vance Worley. The Pirates went 1-2 in their three arbitration cases winning their case over Walker while losing their cases to Alvarez and Worley.
